The Adopt-A-River Program, sponsored by the Northern Illinois Anglers Association, has been named the J.R. Black Adopt-A-River Program.
J.R. was the founder of this ongoing program which allows local organizations and individuals to "adopt" a portion of the river to keep it clean for others, removing trash from its banks at least twice each year.
To mark the occasion, J.R. was presented with a plaque stating, "In recognition of decades of commitment to the preservation of the Kankakee River, the Adopt-A-River Program will, from this day forward, be known as the J.R. Black Adopt-A-River Program. Thank you J.R. Due to your efforts with Adopt-A-River, Kids' Fishing Day, River Clean-up Day, Kankakee River Fishing Derby and many other activities, you have made the Kankakee River a source of enjoyment for thousands of people, now and for future generations."
J.R. is past-president and long-time Executive Director of the Northern Illinois Anglers Association.
